Choose Your Path

First things first - decide which install route works best for your home and your comfort level. You have two great options:

Option 1: Done-For-You Panels

Use our ElevatedCore Wooden Modular Climbing Panels for an even easier install and added design flexibility. This option is great if you want a polished, built-in look or prefer to save time in the overall installation process, completely eliminating the hassle of handling raw plywood as well as the timely labor of drilling and installing individual T-nuts.

Option 2: DIY Lovers Route (Home Depot Run)

The DIY path is for the parents who want full freedom to customize their wall from the ground up. Shape it to fit your space and your aesthetic. Every drill, every placement becomes part of the memory you're building alongside your kids.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

1. Head to your nearest Home Depot and pick out any type of wood with a thickness of 3/4 inches. Keep in mind solid wood will be stronger than composite woods. (I'd recommend buying a 3/4" sanded plywood)

2. Design your rock wall and mark the positions of your climbing holds. Drill a 7/16" hole for each hold (3/8" will also work).

3. Flip the wood over and pound your T-nuts into the holes with a hammer.

Pro-Tip: Drill extra holes in a grid-like pattern and pound extra T-nuts into the back of the plywood to allow for flexibility to move your climbing holds later. Click here to grab extra T-nuts

4. Use a stud finder to locate studs and lightly mark them with a pencil. Studs are what keep your rock wall secured safely to your wall. DO NOT INSTALL DIRECTLY TO WALL. Always secure to a stud or other wooden surface.

Pro Tip: Secure a couple of 2x4s directly to the studs on your existing wall or surface. Then drill your plywood climbing wall (already installed with T-nuts) into the 2x4s. This will help you safely secure your rock wall to your studs on the existing wall. This will also give you a couple inches of buffer room for the bolts that will be stick out in the back of the rock wall. See image for details.

5. Plan your layout & install your climbing holds. There's no wrong layout! Part of the magic is making this rock wall uniquely your own. Secure holds using the bolts and the set screws provided in the hardware kit. (The bolts are weight-bearing, while the set screws are to prevent the hand hold from slipping or spinning). Tighten firmly, but do not overtighten.

Pro Tip: Before letting your little climbers loose, tug on every hold and check for wobbles. Make sure all bolts are snug. Once everything feels solid - it's climb time!

Tips & Tricks for First-Time Success

  • Less is more: You can always add holds later
  • Think like a kid: Lower holds help build confidence
  • Rotate holds over time: Keeps play fresh and challenging
  • Always use a soft landing: Play mats or rugs add peace of mind
  • Don't stress perfection: Function + fun > perfect symmetry

You're not just installing a rock wall - you're creating movement, confidence, and imagination.
